For five days at the end of February, crowds gather in Cherry Orchard Church to share in an evening of song, prayer, healing and hope during Candle Week, an annual event that brings the community of Cherry Orchard together, and connects with people in a fun, interactive way, but is grounded in its mission to teach and inspire trust in God and in each other’s goodness.
Candleweek began in 2006 when the parish pastoral council wanted to organise an event that would allow as many people as possible in the parish to enjoy a sacred space, a spiritual time and an opportunity to reflect and pray in a good humoured and inclusive way.
Different themes are planned for each evening during Candle Week, influenced by what is happening in people’s lives and what they relate to, and throughout the week we welcome characters from the Bible who bring to life the message of a welcoming, loving, inclusive God.
