What is the Synod?

The Synod is a gathering of people, including lay women and men, members of religious orders, priests and bishops from around the world. Beginning on the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, October 4th, They are gathering in Rome with Pope Francis to pray, reflect and discuss major issues concerning the church today.

The Synod process offers the opportunity to become a listening church, to break out of routine in order to stop and listen.

As Archbishop Dermot Farrell said recently, “God is pursuing His plan for the universe, but he desires and needs our cooperation – we are his eyes, ears, tongue, hands and feet. We must therefore constantly try to detect his voice, listen and pursue his will …”

We will keep you posted with newsletters and other information as they are issued.
